14 Greatests in Your Life OR 14 Guidance of Human Life

Prologue

Yesterday, when I was chatting with Hock Keong, we discussed about competition and competitor. He also slightly mentioned about he that used to agree that comparing academic and non-academic results was a correct thing to do. This means that the competition has to be a positive one and it would help to discover or boost someone's potential.
Nevertheless, as time goes on and as experience accumulates, he realised that to be excellence in a field, he should ensure that he improves himself every moment instead of comparing with others.
14 Guidance of Human Life (or 14 Greatests in Your Life)

This leads me to think of a phrase that I learnt long time ago--Life's greatest enemy is ourself. It has 14 phrases all together but I am not sure about its origin, perhaps buddhism. Anyway which religion isn't important as long as they are great phrases. I will list down all of them. I suggest you to have them in front of your desk and think of them when you are free. I believe it has such a power that able to change your life and this is the reason I share them here.

1) Life's greatest enemy is ourself

2) Life's greatest failure is arrogant

3) Life's greatest ignorance is dupe

4) Life's greatest sorrow is jealousy

5) Life's greatest erroneous is self-abandon

6) Life's greatest admiration is choice of advancing

7) Life's greatest gratification is alms

8) Life's greatest wealth is healthiness

9) Life's greatest gift is forgiveness

10) Life's greatest pitiable disposotion is self-abased

  1. Talking about competition...there is a new hybrid - co-opetition = co-operation + competition...

Competition has its benefits; people strive harder and some people's motivation is to compete with people in becoming the best (although I don't agree, but there are people whose goal is just to be the best)...to be the best, they have to compete and compare...

From our pov, that may be an extreme...can't be so kiasu...but instead of competing with them, we can learn more from them when they surpass us...we can't just be self-defeated and say "You go ahead, I improve on myself bit by bit"...Instead, change a different perspective, "Wow! I don't know that this way is much better and I'm going to do the same thing at least!"...

Talking about co-opetition...corporates are using the concept already...set clear boundaries where to compete and where to collaborate...will share more if I have time in another new blogpost...feel free to comment =)
